How to Start Building your Personal Brand

Recently, I spent an afternoon reading Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson. If you haven’t read this book yet, get on it! I’m on my second read, and it parallels so much of what I already teach. Every entrepreneur should read it, particularly solopreneurs, who can immediately see the benefits of intentionally developing a solid personal brand.
One paragraph in the book, in particular, caught my attention. So much so, in fact, that I added it to a piece I was finishing up for Entrepreneur on personal branding.
How to get started in developing your personal brand
“Years ago, as I was trying to understand what my mission was and where I fit into my ecosystems. I set out on a journey to discover my voice, so I started doing a podcast almost every day. I was publishing videos on Facebook live and Periscope everyday – even when NO ONE was listening. It’s important to understand that when you first start, you are not posting these for your audience. You are posting them for you. Eventually people will start to follow, but initially it’s so you can discover your own voice.”
Yes!!! I literally couldn’t have said this better myself.
Your personal brand is what other people think you do and stand for.
You can start to develop that (or even reframe their existing beliefs) by creating content and conversation around the topics that interest you, and developing your authentic voice.
If you’ve got some fear or apprehension around putting yourself out there, here’s a quote from Jay Abraham:
“If you truly believe that what you have is useful and valuable to your clients, then you have a moral obligation to try and serve them in every way possible.”
There are people out there who need to hear what you have to say; especially those who are stuck, or who feel alone. And, those whose lives you can change if you stop worrying about how it’s going to make you feel and focus instead on that service to others by putting yourself and your story out there.
